The actual calculation is as follows:

Your WHS Playing Index times 130 divide by 113 – 1.5 times percentage allowance for the competition. The answer is the ONLY figure that gets rounded down or up. For example, a player with a Handicap Index of 16.3 where the handicap allowance is 85%…NOTE The 130 is the Slope rating for White Tees. The slope rating for YELLOW TEES is 128 The -1.5 is the Course Rating less Par which for WHITE TEES is -1.5 and for YELLOW TEES -2.5

In a calculator for White Tees you enter 16.3 times 130 divide by 113 – 1.5 times 85 divide by 100. The answer is the ONLY figure that gets rounded down or up. NOTE Change 130 to 128 and -1.5 to -2.5 for YELLOW TEES

Detailed Calculation is:

The player is on the White – Men tees, the slope is 130, the Course Par Rating is –1.5. (NOTE FOR YELLOW TEES Slope Rating is 128 and the Course Rating is -2.5)
The Course Handicap is calculated as Players Handicap Index * slope / 113

Then the course par rating is taken off for the Course Handicap.

A handicap allowance percentage is then applied to determine the Playing Handicap. This is rounded up if greater then or equal to .5 or rounded down if < .5.

The following example is for a 4BBB competition, 85% allowance:

The player handicap Index is 16.3 On White – Men tee, the slope is 130, the course rating (CR) is 69.5, and the par (P) is 71.

The Course Handicap is calculated as 16.3 * 130 / 113 = 18.752….The CR – P adjustment of 69.5 – 71 = -1.5 is applied. 18.752-1.5 The resulting Course Handicap is 17.252….This figure is NOT rounded up or down.

A handicap allowance of 85.0% is applied. The Playing Handicap becomes 14.664…. After rounding, the Playing Handicap is 15.

In a calculator you enter 16.3 times 130 divide by 113 – 1.5 times 85 divide by 100. The answer is the ONLY figure that gets rounded down or up.

NOTE: The 16.3 is your individual handicap index from WHS. The figure 85 changes based on the percentage allowance based upon the competition. Change 130 to 128 and change -1.5 to -2.5 for YELLOW TEES
