Welcome everyone, Shirland Golf Club members and visitors old and new.
Firstly I would like to say what a huge honor it is to be captain of such a friendly club and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. I’ve been a member of Shirland for 6 years and have always found every Captain to be friendly and welcoming. I hope that I can carry on this friendly club tradition.
Although I know many members already, I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible, whether it be though our weekly competitions, Tuesday night socials, captains friendly’s or just having a drink in the clubhouse. Please feel free to speak to me regarding any matters relating to the club, and I will certainly do the best I can to assist. During my year as Captain I would like to help the golf club progress forward and continue the hard work that my predecessor has done. I would like to personally thank last years Captain, Darrel for all his hard work over the last 2 years.
Here at Shirland we have a very hardworking committee who strive to continue developing and improving the club. I would like to ask everyone to use the facilities provided so we can keep on giving everyone value for money and provide a positive experience, and if anyone has any ideas, please lets hear them.
I would also like to take this opportunity to mention our junior section and thank Graham Naylor, Craig Swinburn and James Wadsworth for all their hard work. I would like to ask all the members to try and encourage our juniors and wish the Junior Captain, Jenna Ward, all the best for the year ahead. We have a very successful junior section that if we encourage, will hopefully be the foundation for our next generation of members.
This year the captain’s charity will be Help For Heroes. I’m sure we can all agree that this is a very worthwhile cause and I hope that we can all get behind it and raise a good amount of money.
I would also like to express my thanks to our head green keeper, Paul Owens and his staff for all their hard work in keeping our difficult test in tip top condition throughout the season.
I would also like to wish our Lady Captain Marion Shinfield all the best for her year and the ladies section in general, and hopefully we can recruit a few more to join them.
Finally, I would like to thank my family, my wife Emma, and children Daisy and Harry, for their support this coming year, as without it this would not be possible!
All the best for the coming season, happy swinging!
